Former Clemson national champ Diondre Overton signs CFL deal

Diondre Overton is getting a shot at professional football.

The former Clemson wide receiver and two-time national champion inked a deal with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. The deal was announced by the league Tuesday.

He went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft, and the COVID-19 pandemic hampered his opportunity to tryout with any NFL teams. After training for an opportunity over the last year, he landed the deal with the Tiger-Cats.

Overton contributed on the 2016 and 2018 national title teams, including a three-touchdown performance against Boston College at Death Valley that earned him ACC Receiver of the Week honors.  The 6-foot-4, 210-pound receiver recorded 52 catches for 777 yards and seven touchdowns in his career with the Tigers.

The former Clemson wideout can now begin his professional career, using his national-championship experiences in the CFL.

Tigers land on Pro Football Focus preseason All-American teams

Even though Justyn Ross has not been officially cleared to fully return to football, expectations are sky high for his return.

The wide receiver was named to Pro Football Focus’ first-team All-American list earlier this week. He participated this spring in a non-contact role and was optimistic he would be cleared. This came after he missed all of last season with a bulging disc. In his opening two seasons at Clemson, the wideout racked up 1,865 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.

Offensive tackle Jordan McFadden and defensive tackle Bryan Bresee both notch third-team All-American honors. McFadden was a second-team All-ACC selection last year, while Bresee was the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Clemson quarterback wins state Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year

Will Taylor continues to make a name for himself in baseball.

The Clemson quarterback has been named the South Carolina Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year. He just arrived on campus last week, but he’s not done receiving recognition for his senior season of high school baseball.

Taylor is projected to be a first-round pick in next month’s MLB Draft, ranked as 27th-overall prospect in the class per MLB.com.
