Trevor Lawrence recalls his favorite memory from playing at Clemson
Aside from winning a national championship, Trevor Lawrence’s favorite memory of playing football from Clemson isn’t a specific moment, but one game. The current Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback divulged which game on “THE JOURNEY,” a podcast hosted by his former Clemson teammate, Darien Rencher.
And it was the Tigers 2019 Fiesta Bowl win over Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinals. And Lawrence gets to laud the victory over a pair of Jaguars teammates who were on that Buckeyes squad in tight end Luke Farrell and defensive lineman DaVon Hamilton.
“The first one, crazy game. And I have a couple of Ohio State teammates now, that played on that team. Davon, Luke, trying to think of who else. There might be another one but those two for sure, played against them. They’re still pissed about it,” Lawrence said.
There is one play, in particular, that draws the ire of the former Buckeyes. In a game that Clemson won, 29-23, the Ohio State players still bemoan the fumble and subsequent scoop-and-score that was overturned to an incompletion.
It was polarizing play the second Jeff Okudah knocked the ball away from Justyn Ross moments after it arrived, and will live on in infamy for both fanbases.
“They still talk about the fumble, the incompletion, whatever. It was an incompletion,” Lawrence said, pausing and looking at the camera. “Whatever you guys want to call it, they always talk about it. For us, it was a huge game. And that was one of my favorite memories.”

Lawrence had his own iconic moment in the game, too. After Ohio State crept out to a 16-0 lead — one that could’ve been much greater — the Tigers started to reel the Buckeyes in. With just more than a minute until halftime and trailing 16-7, Lawrence took off for an iconic touchdown scamper.
On a day where the Clemson passing attack struggled to find top gear — Lawrence finished 18-for-33 for 259 yards and two touchdowns — the quarterback flashed his ability to run. He carried 10 times for 107 yards and the aforementioned touchdown.
With his three touchdown, 366 yard from scrimmage performance, Lawrence earned offensive MVP honors in the Fiesta Bowl.
After the semifinal win, the Tigers went to the national championship where they fell to the Joe Burrow-led LSU squad. And with a 38-2 record during his time at Clemson, there were certainly plenty of positive memories for Lawrence to pick from.
