Troy Stellato injury update: Dabo Swinney shares disappointing news on Clemson WR
Clemson has lost another player for the season due to an injury as Dabo Swinney revealed Tuesday that receiver Troy Stellato is out for the year.
Stellato has been playing through a thumb injury. However, he is now being shut down for the rest of the season and will undergo surgery.
“Stellato’s out. He’s done for the year. He’s torn his thumb, gotta have surgery on it on Thursday,” Swinney said. “So he’s going to be done. So tough break there.”
Troy Stellato has started five games for Clemson this season. He is fourth on the team with 25 catches for 264 yards and a touchdown.
The hope was that Stellato would be able to continue to play through the pain. However, it has become unbearable in recent weeks, per Swinney.

“He’s actually been battling it for a couple of weeks. We’ve been casting his thumb up and he’s just at a point where he doesn’t think he can keep going and needs to get the surgery. So we’re going to do it on Thursday, I believe,” Swinney said. “He’s in a lot of pain. He’s trying but can’t really play like he needs to play. He’s tried hard but gotta get it fixed. We were hoping we could maybe make it to the end and he’s made it these last two games with it. But just another tough break.”
Troy Stellato has battled injuries throughout his career after signing with Clemson as a four-star recruit in the class of 2021. That includes in 2022 when he missed the entire season due to a torn ACL.
“He’s been a great player for us. I think he’s played the third-most snaps of any of our receivers and made some big plays. He’s a very gritty, tough player,” Swinney said. “He loves football. He loves to play. And you hate it. You hate it.
“I watched him for two-plus years sit. He couldn’t play. But he’s battled a lot of injuries and he’s always just kept getting up. He’s a tough kid, man. I hate it for him, but this is just another part of his story. Gotta move forward.”
