Wake Forest claps back at Clemson over deleted 'crowding the plate' tweet following Sunday win

When it comes to social media in college athletics, teams are no strangers to trolling each other regularly. It’s been something that’s been widely accepted as fun for quite some time. On Sunday after the Wake Forest Demon Deacons defeated the Clemson Tigers in baseball, they didn’t hesitate to clap back at the Clemson social media team.

Here’s a screen shot of the deleted tweet from the Clemson social media team in the eighth inning of yesterday’s game.

“In the eighth inning, after the leadoff batter is hit by a two-strike pitch on the hand while crowding the plate & the Demon Deacons load the bases with no outs, King rips a double to score two runs, then they add two more runs in the frame on Winnay’s single,” Clemson baseball tweeted out.

Unfortunately for the Tigers social media team, the Demon Deacons would go on to win not only Saturday’s game but Sunday’s game in blowout fashion. And they didn’t forget about the chirping on social media.

Following the win, the Wake Forest social media team did not hesitate to fire back about the Tigers’ griping about their batters “crowding the plate”. Wake’s social media team chose the headline, “CROWDED THE WIN COLUMN,” with a broom beside it for the sweep.

Wake Forest took care of business with a thorough thrashing of the Tigers on Sunday, winning 13-3. The Deacs finished with 12 hits and no errors. It was a mini version of a home run derby for WFU, as they scored 12 of those 13 runs on their five homers. The Demon Deacons swept their series with Clemson, 3-0 and won their ninth game in a row. With the win, Wake Forest improved to 36-16 overall and 15-12 in the ACC. The Tigers fell to 37-13 overall and 17-10 in the ACC.

Josh Hartle (6-2) earned the win for WFU, allowing four hits, three runs, and one walk with nine strikeouts in six innings of work.

Wake Forest has turned into one of the more impressive baseball programs in the ACC the past few years. Last year, the Demon Deacons posted a 54-12 overall record, making it all the way to Omaha for the 2023 College World Series, where they fell to the LSU Tigers.
