Clemson has a top-five defense in the sport according to EA Sports College Football 25. That’s a fact that’s difficult for Wes Goodwin to interpret with the game finally being back after a dozen years away.

Goodwin received a question about the rating of the Tigers’ unit during a recent media availability last week. He finds it to be enough of a compliment for his group considering what he remembers about the it.

“I don’t even know how to answer that,” laughed Goodwin.

“I mean I guess it’s flattering,” Goodwin said. “Growing up playing that game, you know, up until that last version of it. You know, hopefully we can get back into dynasty mode this year somehow. It’s pretty cool to see.”

Goodwin then went a little deeper into when he used to play the game growing up. He remember playing it with his friends and it being an introduction for him in wanting to be a coach.

With that, he hopes it allows some users to understand that it’s not so easy being the one on the sidelines.

“That was the game for me growing up,” Goodwin said. “You know, calling plays, calling your defenses, building your teams. Just the competitiveness of playing your buddies, so forth and so on.”

“Also just an opportunity for a lot of fans to enjoy the game as well and to find out it’s harder to call plays than they think,” said Goodwin.

Clemson rated as the No. 5 defense, although in a five-way tie, in the nation in EA Sports College Football 25 at a 90 overall. That sat behind only Ohio State (96), Georgia (94), Oregon (90), and Alabama (90). Notre Dame and Michigan also came in as 90s. Pair that with the No. 10 offense as an 87, which tied with six other teams, and the Tigers finished as the No. 6 overall team as a 90. The overall rating tied with Notre Dame as well as LSU.

Clemson has routinely sent out one of the best defenses in the nation over the last decade. That now gets to be represented virtually with Goodwin’s side of the ball being the higher ranked one for the team.
