Deion Sanders seems like he’s long for Colorado, according to ESPN’s Andrea Adelson. There are questions about Sanders’ future once his sons Shedeur and Shilo go to the next level after the 2024 campaign.

Not to mention, Heisman candidate and two-way star travis Hunter getting NFL draft buzz for 2025 as well. So when you lose three star players, two being your sons, what’s left for Sanders at Colorado? To keep building?

It seems like that’s the move right now, as Adelson described on The Paul Finebaum Show.

“Well, it’s a question that he was asked at his press conference and I’m just going to editorialize for a second here because I had never met Deion Sanders,” Adelson said. “This was my first time actually being in a room with him as he was giving his press conference and he was laid back, he was comfortable. He was jovial, he had his one liners that I think we all expect him to have. Had the sunglasses on, had the cowboy hat on, looked comfortable in the rain, even though it was pouring down during the game.

“He’s got Shedeur, his son, coming back as the quarterback, looked really good in the three series that he played but because there are questions now about the future, this is the last year for Shedeur, his son Shiloh plays on defense, it’s going to be his last collegiate season as well. A lot of people are wondering, well, what does that mean for Deion?”

“Is he going to want to be in Colorado long term to the point where a local reporter did ask Deion that and he said, ‘I have no plans. I have no plans to follow my sons to the NFL,’” Adelson said. “He was asked, ‘what do you tell the parents of recruits in the class of ‘25 and ‘26 that are coming on their visits about your long term future’ and he said, ‘Well, I tell them the truth. I’m a daddy. I’m not a baby daddy, and I don’t need to follow my kids wherever they go.’”

In essence, Sanders is the Colorado coach even after his sons leave the program.

“And so that’s what he says now but of course, you know, you have to parse the words here,” Adelson said. “I do not plan. Well today he does not plan what’s the plan going to be in December, January, etc? Who knows? But at least for right now, Deion said I have work to do here like I want to deliver a winning program to the people of Colorado.

“He talked about how much he loves the area, about how he likes the mountains. How he never thought a kid from the South would love it there in Boulder, but he genuinely does. He said he and Warren Sapp, who’s now on his staff, were trading stories about going up to the mountains. And seeing snow. So he says he loves it there and he feels confident being there. Now what that means for the long term future, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.”
