Doryan Onwuchekwa will not be headed to Boulder after all. The 6-foot-10 center out of Faith Family Academy in Dallas has requested to be released from his National Letter of Intent (NLI) to Colorado and will reopen his recruitment.

Onwuchekwa provided the following statement to On3 regarding his decision:

“Colorado Basketball and I have mutually agreed to part ways. The University of Colorado Basketball program will grant me a complete release from my National Letter of Intent. Colorado Basketball and I wish each other the best.”

The four-star senior committed to the Buffaloes in September, before signing his NLI in November during the early period. He ultimately chose Colorado over Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, TCU, and Xavier.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Onwuchekwa is the No. 104 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle. He’s also the No. 14 center prospect and the No. 7 player in Texas. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Scouting Report

“Doryan Onwuchekwa has a big frame and broad shoulders with solid length. Has good hands – albeit small – and touch with consistent range. Can stretch the floor out to beyond the arc, off the catch, and he puts it on the deck under control. He can drift and get too perimeter-oriented at times. When he plays close to the basket, he is a good area rebounder and a good outlet passer. He has range on catch-and-shoot threes. Has some upside to slide his feet on defense. He is still figuring out his game, but the consistency continues to become more and more frequent.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
