Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has lost multiple players to the transfer portal and added multiple players from the portal this cycle. He understands that the portal is a huge part of college football.

However, what Sanders isn’t a fan of is tampering, which college coaches say is happening more and more. Sanders recently called out other schools for offering players deals before they enter the transfer portal and while they are still a part of their team.

“I saw something the other day about some quarterback, was it the Texas guy? They said he had an offer for $4 or 5 million,” Deion Sanders said. “How you get an offer when you’re not in the portal? How does that work?

“Because we don’t do that. Like, how does that work? How you get an offer when you’re not in the portal? So who does that?”

Deion Sanders added that he always offers advice to Buffaloes players who approach him about entering the portal.

“Sometimes these young men are just confused and they’re hearing all the outside noise and they think that that’s the best thing for them,” Deion Sanders said. “And I always tell them, I don’t recommend you jumping into the portal unless you know you’re probably going to have a home.”

Oklahoma transfer DB Makari Vickers commits to Colorado

Speaking of players Colorado has added from the transfer portal, Oklahoma transfer DB Makari Vickers recently committed to the Buffaloes.

Vickers spent two seasons in Norman, but took a redshirt this past year. He played in four games, totaling one tackle in that time. That came after eight appearances in 2023 when he had eight tackles and a pass defended as a true freshman.

Vickers played high school football at Tallahassee (FL) Robert F Munroe Day School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 83 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
