Colorado sees flurry of decommitments after Deion Sanders hiring
In his first meeting with Colorado’s football team, new head coach Deion Sanders wasted no time telling his players that there would be major changes to the roster in the coming weeks and months.
That also extends to the Buffaloes’ recruiting, where CU parted ways with seven of its commits on Tuesday as the new staff turns its attention elsewhere.
That list included: Grand Prairie (Texas) South Grand Prairie three-star running back AJ Newberry; Pleasanton (Calif.) Amador Valley three-star EDGE Brady Nassar; Houston (Texas) Yates three-star EDGE Kam Bizor; Star City (Ark.) three-star linebacker CJ Turner; El Paso (Texas) Parkland three-star interior offensive lineman Tyrone McDuffie; Simi Valley (Calif.) three-star EDGE Carson Mott; and Seattle (Wash.) O’Dea three-star tight end Tucker Ashcraft.

At the same time, Colorado has been busy on the recruiting trail extending new offers. In just 48 hours, Sanders and his staff have offered more than a dozen 2023 recruits, including a number currently committed elsewhere. They’ve extended offers to 2024 and 2025 prospects as well, and Sanders landed his first commitment as the Buffs’ coach with 2025 four-star wide receiver Winston Watkins on Sunday.
Colorado is also expected to be very active in the transfer portal, with nearly 1,000 players now officially in the portal after it opened for FBS players on Monday. Old Dominion wide receiver Ali Jennings, Dartmouth EDGE Shane Cokes, FIU wide receiver Tyrese Chambers, and Texas A&M EDGE Tunmise Adeleye are among those to receive offers from the Buffs.
