Colorado draws impressive viewership for first spring game under Deion Sanders
In Deion Sanders‘ first spring game at Colorado, the Buffaloes drew impressive viewership. That’s despite coming off a 1-11 season and spring games generally being on the decline in terms of their popularity.
Last Saturday, the Colorado spring game drew an audience of 551,000 people, according to Austin Karp, a massive number for a spring game.
For comparison, Georgia only drew 181,000 viewers and the Bulldogs are the defending national champions. Both games were on ESPN2 as well, so the network really shouldn’t have had much impact on the viewership.

When Colorado played USC in 2022, the week 11 game drew a 0.29 rating, amounting to around 525,000 viewers. That’s fewer eyes on Colorado for a game against a marquee opponent than chose to tune into the spring game. Clearly, plenty of people want to see what Deion Sanders is bringing to the table.
Former Colorado star and current analyst Joel Klatt saw enough at the spring game to declare Deion Sanders a major success.
“It was electric. Even I tweeted out when you look at what this has been so far, it has been a major success,” Klatt said.

“The spring game was incredible to watch, wish I could have been there … I’m so excited for what Coach Prime is doing there in Boulder. And by the way, from what I saw on the field, I think they’re going to win 6+ games this season.”
Deion Sanders said that Peggy Coppom was the MVP
Deion Sanders and Colorado welcomed superfan, 98-year-old Peggy Coppom, to the spring game. There, Sanders walked with her and she kicked the ball off a tee. After the game, Sanders showed his love for Coppom.
“Peggy balled. Peggy was the MVP of the game. She was quick. The first step was unbelievable. She was very physical when she grabbed me and made sure I held her arm. Timely and her kick-off was phenomenal. Went through the uprights and everything. So, I’m glad. She is just a breath of fresh air and she just breathes life into everyone that comes close to her. She’s a godsend, man,” Sanders said.
“She is unbelievable and I’m glad Rick took me over to the crib that one day and we had a little brunch or lunch with her. She had these pecans that were unbelievable that she sent me a bag of. They were like glazed or caramelized or something and I was just killing those things and she remembered that. She’s a gift from God. I’m very appreciative that we were able to do that for her and give her her moment. She deserves it.”
