The entire Colorado crowd wished superfan Miss Peggy a happy birthday after 49-24 victory against Utah on Saturday. Fans broke out in song in honor of Peggy Coppom, a regular attendee at Buffaloes games who will turn 100 years old on Tuesday.

Coppom has been a season ticket holder since the 1966 season and been coming to Colorado games for the past 80 years. It’s safe to say she got her present a little early this year in the form of a Buffaloes win.

Coppom was clearly touched by the gesture as she appeared to wipe away tears of joy from her eyes during the moment. She also waved her pom pom in the air, which she brings with her to every game.

Miss Peggy has seen the good and bad of Colorado football throughout her many years as a fan. This year is certainly one of the best in recent memory as Colorado has now reached eight wins for the first time since 2016.

The Buffaloes used a big day from quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who threw for 340 yards and three touchdowns to only one interception in the win. Defensively, Colorado forced four turnovers and held the Utes to only 31 yards rushing.

Colorado remains in sole possession of second place in the Big 12 after the win against Utah. That puts it in control of its own destiny as far as making the conference title game and having a chance to earn a College Football Playoff berth.

It’s safe to say that Miss Peggy will be there cheering them on no matter what, but it would be quite the 100th birthday gift if they are able to pull off a Big 12 Championship. Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders made a promise earlier this week that the team is playing for its biggest fan.

“Miss Peggy in her own tremendous, loving way, she gives all of us hope,” he said. “She gives all of us that unspeakable joy. That love. That respect. You know how many decades we are apart but we still found one another? I thank God for that. Just the little things she whispers. That’s the remembrance of certain little things that she may say. Her asking me about my mother.

“…Because Peggy is just, she is like that, man. She gives me so much energy every darn time I see her. You guys thought I was joking. I was really dedicated to getting Peggy to a bowl game. Now we’re trying to get Peggy to THE game. It was a bowl game. Now it’s THE game.”
