Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders put the football world on notice Saturday with a stunning upset road victory over No. 17 TCU.

The Buffaloes also apparently made a major impression on Statesboro (Ga.) four-star cornerback Kam Mikell, who was set to officially visit Kentucky this weekend.

Instead, Mikell announced on Sunday that he will head to Boulder instead for the Buffaloes’ showdown with former Big 12 nemesis Nebraska.

Mikell has already taken official visits to Georgia, South Carolina and Georgia Tech this summer, and he also has an official visit scheduled with Tennessee later this month. The Vols have been trending in his recruitment lately, according to On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons.

“When his recruitment started, Kam Mikell saw himself as an athlete who could play on either side of the ball,” Simmons said earlier this week. “Over time, he started to lean toward offense, which is where Tennessee wants him to play. From the beginning, Tennessee likes Mikell as a wide receiver and the Vols have become the team to beat. Texas A&M is another school to watch that likes him on offense. Georgia is the in-state school, but the Bulldogs like Mickell as a safety.”

The Buffaloes could play Mikell on both sides of the ball, similar to what they showcased with former Five-Star Plus+ recruit Travis Hunter on Saturday. Hunter, the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2022 class, played more Hunter ended up playing 150 snaps, picked up 119 receiving yards, an interception, and three tackles.

Buffaloes could make a move with one of the nation’s best

Sanders and his staff have already proven to be a major threat on the recruiting trail, both at Jackson State and this past cycle at Colorado. The Buffs flipped five-star cornerback Cormani McClain from Miami and four-star running back Dylan Edwards from Kansas State, and ultimately ended up with the nation’s No. 35 recruiting class, despite Sanders being on the job only a few months left.

And CU has already made waves in this cycle, landing four-star athlete Aaron Butler over Oregon and Georgia, as well as landing a commitment from four-star defensive lineman Brandon Davis-Swain. Now, Sanders is looking to beat out Georgia, Tennessee and others for Mikell, the No. 53 overall prospect in the On300 rankings.
