Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders discuss whether Colorado has anything left to prove
Colorado is off to as good of a start as anyone in the country. After entering the year with low expectations nationally, the Buffaloes are 2-0 with a pair of Power 5 wins to start the season.
Two-way star Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders joined ESPN First Take on Friday to discuss the strong start for Colorado.
They were asked if the Buffaloes have anything left to prove after impressive wins at TCU and against Nebraska.
“I don’t think we’re trying to prove ourselves anymore. We’re just trying to go out there and dominate on each side of the ball,” Hunter said. “Once we get both of them to click, it’s over with. That’s pretty much how we’re thinking right now. We’ve just gotta dominate each game, 1-0 every game.”
Through two games, Hunter has 14 catches for 192 yards, seven tackles, an interception and a pass breakup.
Sanders leads the country with an average of 451.5 passing yards per game. He has accounted for seven touchdowns.
While Sanders has put up incredible numbers so far, he wants to see Colorado prove that it can play at an even higher level.

Travis Hunter
Colorado star heavy Heisman favorite
“We know obviously we ain’t played to our best. I feel like I’ve nowhere near hit my peak to just having a perfect game, having a great game yet. So it’s just that fire inside me, just driving me week by week, practice after practice, knowing, ‘OK, I’m trying to have a perfect game. I’m trying to go out here and lead everybody in the right way,’” Sanders said. “I’m trying to take the pressure off the offensive coordinator’s shoulders and my dad’s shoulders and just the defense’s shoulders. So really just going into the game understanding that we’ve gotta have perfection day in and day out.”
Colorado stars were anxious to prove they can play at Power 5 level
Prior to coming to Colorado, Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders and several other current Buffaloes players played at Jackson State.
The Tigers were 12-0 entering their final game last season, before losing to NC Central in overtime to finish the year 12-1.
Former Jackson State coach Deion Sanders had already accepted the Colorado head coaching job when that game took place and Shedeur Sanders and Hunter knew that they would be joining Coach Prime in Boulder. Following the loss to NC Central, the two immediately starting thinking about their futures and playing at the Power 5 level.
“Our last game – if you go back to the last game after we lost. Me and [Shedeur] took a knee in the end zone. We just said, ‘It’s time. We’ve gotta go show them what we can do,’” Hunter recalled. “We talked man-to-man, at the end zone, staring at the fans disappointed that we lost. So we knew that we had more to prove and that’s what we came here to do.”
