Deion Sanders gives impressions of Washington State matchup
Colorado would need to run the table and win their last two games to secure bowl eligibility in their first season under Deion Sanders, which would start this Saturday on the road with a win over Washington State.
Like the Buffaloes, Washington State has a 4-6 overall record with just one win versus conference competition this season. But according to Sanders, a record isn’t the only thing that they have in common, as he was asked on the ‘Colorado Football Coaches Show’ about the great opportunity his team has this weekend.
“Yeah we have a great opportunity every darn week, but we find a way to mess it up,” Sanders said getting a laugh out of the audience. “Washington State, they’re a lot like us. Statistically, aesthetically, things they excel in, things they don’t, they’re really similar to us. We’re just praying, I’m praying as a coach, I want to play one game of mistake-free football. What I mean by that is I want the offense to show up, the defense to show up, and the special teams to show up. Just one game together.”
The two teams are eerily similar in a lot of ways, both boasting top-five passing offenses in the Pac-12 led by two standout quarterbacks, Shedeur Sanders and Cameron Ward. Both signal callers have thrown for over 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, but are also the two most sacked quarterbacks in the conference.
Both teams also rank as the bottom two rushing teams in the conference with bottom five scoring defenses in the Pac-12, so it’s safe to say the ball will be in the air and points will be scored in this matchup.

But when it comes to getting a win, Sanders wants to see more cohesion and consistency from who team that’s struggled to put it all together at once in his first year at the helm.
“Usually the offense shows up, defense forgets to come to the game. Defense shows up, offense forgot. Special teams forget this and that, but then we rebound on the punting, stuff like that,” Sanders explaied. “I just want to have one united game where all of us show up as one, I really do. But we’ve been there, we’ve been right there. We just got to learn how to take command of the opportunity.”
The Buffaloes definitely have some things to clean up during the home stretch of the season, from their quarterback being the most sacked in the nation to their team as a whole leading the county in penalties per fame.
But hopefully, Sanders and the Buffaloes can finish the season strong, as they’ll take Washington State this weekend in Pullman at 10:30 p.m. ET in a game airing on FS1.
