Deion Sanders wants to impact Colorado recruiting beyond football
There’s no denying the amount of national attention the Colorado Buffaloes have gotten since the arrival of head coach Deion Sanders.
Colorado has sold out all of their home games for the remainder of the year, making it the first time in program history that they’ll sell out every single home game for a season. Not to mention their latest game versus Colorado State totaled 9.3 million viewers, making it the most-watched late game in ESPN’s history and their fifth most-watched game outright ever.
Coach Prime said from the very beginning that this was the vision and expectation when he arrived in Boulder, showing little to no surprise about the new heights his team has reached. And when he was asked outside of himself what the reaction within their building has been to their new national spotlight, he pivoted to Colorado’s other athletic programs.
“I don’t know, I mean I’m kind of immune to that kind of stuff. I’m so focused and locked in on what we do from day to day, week to week,” Sanders said. “But I’m happy that our different athletics are benefitting.”
The recruiting impact that Colorado football has had between the gravitational force that is Deion Sanders and the team’s electric 3-0 start to the season is undeniable, as Sanders previously mentioned there’s an absurd amount of recruits currently interested in visiting.

Colorado has already hosted some of the nation’s top recruits, but Sanders would like to see that same impact in recruiting permeate to other teams as well.
“I want to see the girl’s basketball team hosting visits and brining the girls to our games and brining them to me so I can meet them and we can close. As well the boys, as well as other sports as well,” Sanders said. “This is a great time to bring people up for a visit so they can see the true atmosphere and what we posses and what we bring. And CU athletics, we’re rolling right now and we want to keep it going, but we want to help one another.”
Colorado’s women’s basketball team finished third in the Pac-12 last season with an impressive 13-5 record in conference play and a 25-9 finish overall. And if the ‘Prime Effect’ can permeate to that program along with others in Boulder, it’d be safe to assume that Buffaloes Athletics as a whole can take a major step up in the near future.
