Colorado running back Alton McCaskill plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal
The number of players transferring out of Colorado continues to grow. On Wednesday night, another individual announced that they plan to enter the NCAA transfer portal and part ways with the Buffaloes and head coach Deion Sanders.
According to ESPN’s Pete’s Thamel, running back Alton McCaskill has informed him that he plans on entering the transfer portal.
“Colorado tailback Alton McCaskill (@AltonMcaskillIV) tells ESPN that he’s entering the NCAA transfer portal. McCaskill earned AAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2021 while at Houston, running for 961 yards and grabbing 113 receiving yards. He’ll have two years eligibility,” said Thamel via X.
McCaskill was one of the crown jewels of Sanders’ transfer portal acquisitions last offseason. Unfortunately, not much came of his time in Colorado, as he played in just four games, carrying the ball 14 times for 59 yards. McCaskill would eventually redshirt the season to help maintain his eligibility going forward. And as things stand now, his remaining eligibility will not be used with the Buffaloes in 2024 and beyond.
McCaskill played high school football at Oak Ridge High School in Conroe, TX, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 386 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Chamon Metayer re-enters NCAA transfer portal too
Colorado tight end Chamon Metayer has re-entered the NCAA transfer portal. He previously committed to the Buffaloes in December after spending the first three seasons of his college career at Cincinnati.

Metayer had the best season of his career with the Bearcats in 2023 to finish with 23 catches for 258 yards and five touchdowns. He has two years of eligibility remaining wherever he decides to transfer.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, Metayer has the size to make him a threat both as a blocker and receiver. He appeared in 17 games over his three seasons at Cincinnati, so he’ll also offer experience at his next stop.
As a recruit, Metayer was a four-star prospect coming out of North Miami High School in Miami, Florida. He ranked as the No. 399 overall player and No. 24 athlete in the 2021 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Colorado is coming off of its first season under coach Deion Sanders, who led the Buffaloes to a 4-8 finish after they went 1-11 the year prior to his arrival. Sanders made great use of the transfer portal in his first year and will aim for another successful cycle as he looks to get Colorado back to a bowl game.
