Colorado sets new spring game attendance record despite weather
If you think Colorado Buffalo football fans are not hyped for the 2023 season, guess again. Despite weather issues, Buffaloes fans filled their home stadium of Folsom Field for Saturday’s spring game. And filled is not an understatement as it was revealed that the crowd in attendance for the game was 47,277; or 88 percent of the stadium’s maximum capacity.
It should come as no surprise that the number in attendance set a new spring game attendance record for the Buffaloes. That 47,222 more than doubled the previous attendance record for a spring game at Colorado, 17,800, that was set 15 years ago in 2008. And when comparing this year’s attendance numbers to last year’s, there is a stark difference between the two. That can be easily noticed when comparing a press box view from the 2022 spring game to this one; which can be seen in the video below.
Last year just some 1950 fans attended the Buffaloes’ spring showcase.
Clearly, there is a lot to be excited about when it comes to Colorado football as we advance. With the hire of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders as the program’s new head coach, a lot of buzz is swirling around the program. And given the amount of talent that has flocked to Colorado to play for him, it’s no surprise that so many fans filled the stadium to get a glimpse of the possibilities for next season. And arguably, one of the biggest surprise possibilities seen on Saturday came from star defensive back Travis Hunter.
Hunter says Colorado move was aided by option to play offense
Toward the Buffaloes’ spring game, Hunter spoke with the ESPN team covering the game. While speaking to them, he illuminated the deciding factors behind his transferring to the Pac-12 program besides his head coach.

“Just come in and be able to do what I want to do. Being able to play both sides of the ball like I wanted to. You see me starting offense. I know all the offensive plays. Now I’m going to get back into defense during the summer break right here and hit at it hard,” said Hunter.
This season at Colorado, Hunter is looking to contribute on both sides of the ball. During the spring game, there were several times where he lined up at wide receiver on offense. And as he explained, during spring practices, Hunter has been primarily focusing on learning the Buffaloes’ offense in preparation for the 2023 season.
