Colorado unveils Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders retired numbers at Folsom Field

There are now six numbers retired by Colorado football. Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders are the latest to see their names etched into program history forever. Despite only spending two seasons in Boulder, nobody else will wear No. 12 or 2.
With Colorado’s spring game taking place on Saturday, Folsom Field made the retirements official. The new displays were unveiled as Hunter is on the far left and Sanders on the far right. Four other Buffalo legends are in between.
Just days before seeing their NFL dreams become true, one more honor was waiting for Hunter and Sanders. You can check out the full scene from Folsom Field as the retired numbers are just below the 1990 national championship display.
Both players joined Colorado when Deion Sanders accepted the job. Their impact was immediately felt during the 2023 season as the Buffaloes were the biggest story in college football. While some of the magic fizzled out late, significant improvements were made.
This led to massive success in 2024, where Colorado won nine games for the first time since 2016. It’s just one of six winning records they have had since the turn of the century. CU administration wanted a way to honor the legacy of Hunter and Sanders, ultimately deciding on retiring their numbers.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders discusses number retirement of Shedeur
Colorado announcing the retirement of these numbers sparked some debate. Mainly for Sanders, who differs from Hunter — who won a Heisman Trophy due to his performances during the 2024 season. Winning college football’s most prestigious individual award usually leads to some kind of big-time honor from your school.
Deion Sanders spoke on the decision from Colorado to retire his son’s number. He says without the last name, Sheduer would not be getting his name placed on Folsom Field.
“If his last name wasn’t Sanders, we wouldn’t have this discussion,” Sanders said. “Only reason we’re having this discussion is because his last name is Sanders. That’s it. There have been so many things accomplished at this university, expeditiously, it’s been unbelievable. And I think we should be appreciative. We should be thankful.
“… There are a whole lot of things that are brighter in and better because someone stands on business and makes it that way. And he’s resilient when it comes to it being that way because everything we do is to improve everything for us.”
