Joel Klatt predicts Colorado will win one of its first two games in 2023
Colorado will win at least one of its first two games against TCU or Nebraska, according to Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt.
That’d be quite the start to the Deion Sanders’ era, since Colorado will be in the national spotlight to kickoff the season. After a much talked about roster rebuild over the course of the offseason, Coach Prime does it his way.
And in doing so, caused Klatt to look at the first two weeks and say the Buffaloes could be 1-1 at worst against Power Five opponents to begin the year.
“If they get to six wins and go to a bowl game, it is like Coach of the Year status for Coach Prime,” Klatt said on his podcast. “Okay. I will say this. I think they will be able to compete at a very high level early in the year before depth is an issue. That TCU game and that Nebraska game, I think Colorado wins one of those games.”
Klatt doubled down on his prediction when he referenced conversations with his coworkers at Fox Sports. Going into the year, TCU has to reset after losing the national championship game while Nebraska undergoes a rebuild as well.
“I’ve said that to the guys, you know the kickoff guys, we’re on a text chain and Brady and Matt are always like, ‘Oh, Klatt you won’t say that publicly,’” Klatt said. “Just did. I think Colorado wins one of the first two games. I think that they are good enough in the skill positions that before depth is an issue, they’re doing a lot of things right.

“This is going to work, t’s just a matter of how long it takes. It’s just a matter of how long it takes. It’s so fascinating. I can’t wait to watch this. All of us. Big Noon Kickoff is going to be with them. The opening two weeks against TCU and against Nebraska, we’ll be there.”

There’s more work to be done, but Sanders loves where his team is up to this point. Now, a 1-11 football team has to go out and prove that progress on the field.
But there’s a palpable energy from Sanders this close to the season.
“Our roster is really talented,” Sanders said. “I love going to practice each day, witnessing the battles that we have in certain positions. Receiver battles, offensive line, defensive line, defensive backs, corners, kickers. It’s unbelievable. And I love the depth that we’re displaying right now. I really do. It’s a whole new team.
“And the thing about, instead of asking me about the roster changes and all that, why don’t you ask about the guys that we held onto? It’d be a good place to start. Ask them how much better this team looks. How much closer this team is. Ask them.”
