Coveted 4-star RB Byron Louis visiting Colorado
The race for Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage four-star running back Byron Louis has largely consisted of in-state programs, but Colorado is looking to change that.
With a potential big weekend on the recruiting trail brewing for Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes, Louis is in Boulder for a multi-day visit and is set to take in Colorado’s spring game. He posed alongside Sanders following his arrival in the Centennial State.
Louis is the No. 176 overall prospect and No. 10 RB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 24 player in Florida.
Colorado has a chance to make a serious impression on the blue-chip burner this weekend. Florida State is currently trending for his pledge — according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine — while Miami and Ohio State have both been heavily involved in Louis’ recruitment.
“I think Florida State’s the team to beat in this recruitment right now,” On3 VP of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong said recently on ‘The Inside Scoop’. “But he’s also very high on Ohio State and Miami. There was a time where I liked the Buckeyes as well, so this recruitment has been fluid, but I think this spring Florida State has really emerged as the program to beat here.”
Louis is set to be one of the most coveted recruits in Boulder, alongside Lewisville (Texas) High five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi, Tampa (Fla.) Sumner four-star offensive lineman Ziyare Addison and others. The Buffaloes are also trending for a couple of 2025 prospects, including IMG Academy four-star cornerback Alex Graham and Buford (Ga.) three-star linebacker Mantrez Walker.

Louis talks Florida State, Miami
Pulling Louis out of the Sunshine State will be no easy feat. He’s logged multiple impressive trips to Coral Gables and Tallahassee throughout his recruitment, and both Miami and FSU continue to turn up the heat in their push to land his commitment.
“High energy and good vibes,” he said of his recent stop at FSU. “Coach Norvell & Coach Yac (David Johnson) are what continues to excite me. I see the hard work that they are putting in on a consistent bases and I like that. It just shows their hard work and dedication to being excellent is the standard.”
“We talked a lot prior to (the visit) – honestly there was nothing but good energy and good vibes,” Louis said of new Miami RBs coach Matt Merritt after a March visit. “But I got to see a different side of him (Merritt) today while they were practicing. He just wants nothing but the best for his guys, and I really do appreciate that, because he’s not going to just let you do whatever or BS him. You’re going to get the real him.”
