Danny Kanell fires back at Deion Sanders Jr.: Stop writing checks your lil bros can't cash
Early season success certainly caused some opinions about Deion Sanders and Colorado. Three consecutive wins to start the year had everyone in Boulder feeling sky-high. Unfortunately, eight of the final nine games on the schedule resulted in losses, with the Buffaloes finishing 4-8.
In the midst of Colorado’s success, Deion Sanders Jr. defended them, and rightfully so. His father and two brothers were having success and people, specifically Danny Kanell, were calling them out. Well, after the collapse, Kannell decided to fire back.
“Hey junior @DeionSandersJr congrats on 4 wins in year one,” Kanell said. “Some advice for year 2: Stop writing checks your lil bros can’t cash. Clean up your language -I’m sure your daddy doesn’t approve. When you lose say little. When you win say less.”
The original interaction took place in September when Colorado took down in-state Colorado State in a thrilling overtime matchup. Kannell called out the fans for storming the field despite being massive favorites in Vegas. Sanders Jr. had a simple message for Kannell, which prompted the “clean up your language” portion of his tweet.
Kanell claimed to just be keeping receipts, something incredibly common on X. And if we have learned anything about social media battles in the past, this one is likely far from over.

Colorado heads into second year under Deion Sanders
Heading into the season, four wins could have been considered a success for Colorado, at least from the outside. Just one win was there on the 2022 schedule, being one of the worst Power Five programs in college football. A three-game improvement in Year One of a new regime is rare in the sport.
But after starting 3-0, only getting one more along the way is going to feel like a failure. Getting to a bowl game and earning extra practices would have been huge for Colorado but instead, all focus has been shifted to making a bigger improvement in 2024.
Sanders is expected to hit the NCAA transfer portal hard this offseason. He has been incredibly vocal about needing more players upfront, specifically on the offensive line. His son, Sheduer Sanders, was getting beat up all season and even reportedly fractured his back against Washington State.
Colorado will be heading into a new conference as well. A short stint is the Pac-12 is over and the Buffs are getting back with their ex — the Big 12. A new era is upon the conference but is under the guidance of Brett Yormark.
