What Deion Sanders has done as the head coach at Colorado in 2024 has been remarkable, positioning them to make the Big 12 Championship Game and potentially the College Football Playoff. With that has, unsurprisingly, come rumors about his future and the potential he could leave for the NFL.

Despite those rumors, when Sanders addressed his future at Colorado, he made sure to emphasize that he’s happy in Boulder.

“You don’t talk like that with my A.D. in here,” Deion Sanders said. “That’s so disrespectful. You’re going to talk about me going somewhere with my A.D. in here? They mentioned us with a lot of other stuff, too, before we started winning, didn’t they? That wasn’t fair, was it? Price. There’s a price of everything.”

Deion Sanders first got to Colorado for the 2023 season, flipping the roster through the Transfer Portal. That did not lead to immediate success, going 4-8 that first season. However, in 2024, he took a major leap forward with the Buffaloes sitting at 8-2 through 10 games in 2024.

“I am happy where I am, man. I’m good. I got a kickstand down,” Sanders said. “You know what a kickstand is? A lot of people in here at an age they don’t know what a kickstand is. That means I’m resting, I’m good, I’m happy. I’m excited, I’m enthusiastic about where I am. I love it here, truly do. Next question.”

For Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, this will be his last season in college before having the opportunity to go to the NFL where he’s expected to be a high pick. The thought in some arguments for Deion to go to the NFL is that he could become a package with his son for an NFL team.

The most notable team that Sanders has been tied to is one of his former teams, the Dallas Cowboys. That’s something that ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith does think he would consider.

“Well, first of all, Deion Sanders prefers kids as opposed to grown men when it comes to coaching. So, the NFL is not nearly as attractive a commodity to him as coaching on the collegiate level is because he loves nurturing young boys into becoming men. The exception, I personally believe, as somebody that has known him for many years, would be the Cowboys,” Smith said.

“That is not something he has ever acknowledged or admitted. I’m not trying to break news in that regard. I think the ultimate aberration for him would be the Cowboys. That’s why I brought up the Cowboys. He ain’t trying to go to no damn Jacksonville. Get that out your head Elle [Duncan]. He ain’t trying to do that. He’d rather stay on the collegiate level. I’m just telling you, it’s not even a thought. It’s not even a thought. The Cowboys are a different animal.”

For now, Deion Sanders is focused on being at Colorado and getting the Buffaloes to the Big 12 Championship Game.
