Deion Sanders addresses Cowboys head coaching vacancy: 'I love Boulder and everything there is about our team'

The news that Jerry Jones and Deion Sanders discussed the Dallas Cowboys’ head coaching vacancy has been the talk of the football world on Monday.

While nothing is set in stone as of this report, Coach Prime took a moment to comment on the situation and briefly reveal his thoughts on talking to the Cowboys owner about the position.

“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” Deion Sanders told ESPN on Monday night, via Adam Schefter. “I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”

Sanders has spent two seasons as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. However, Sanders recently said that he would consider taking an NFL head coaching job if he was able to coach both of his sons, Shedeur and Shilo Sanders, at the next level, at the same time and on the same team.

Whether than pans out remains to be seen, but Coach Prime made sure to let the community in Boulder know where his thoughts stand after Monday’s news.

The news of the Cowboys potential interest in Deion Sanders comes after it was revealed earlier on Monday that Mike McCarthy would not be returning in 2025 as the team’s head coach.

The history between Sanders and Dallas is there. Sanders played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1995 through 1999 and won Super Bowl XXX with the Cowboys in 1996. He’s joined the coaching scene over the last decade but didn’t decide to join the college football ranks since 2020.

Sanders made the jump from Jackson State to Colorado ahead of the 2023 season. After a dissapointing initial campaign, Coach Prime’s Buffs rattled off nine wins this past year which resulted with them being invited to play in the Alamo Bowl vs. BYU.

Both of his sons, as well as Heisman Trophy-winner Travis Hunter are all off to the NFL Draft, and now it seems Coach Prime is intrigued after the talks he had with the Dallas Cowboys owner. If the Cowboys do go ahead and hire Sanders, it’ll cost Jerry Jones more than a few bucks as Coach Prime’s buyout is currently $8 million.
