Deion Sanders admits he was thinking 'We can't let this dude win' late vs. Colorado State
At the start of last week, Colorado and Colorado State head coaches Deion Sanders and Jay Norvell seemed happy to be playing one another, with Sanders speaking about the significance of facing another black head coach. Then, as Colorado put it, Norvell made it personal.
Norvell seemed to take a shot at Sanders, saying that he was taught to take off his hat and sunglasses when speaking to adults. The Buffaloes used it as a way to motivate themselves going into a game that they were big favorites in, with Sanders gifting sunglasses to his players.
The game ended up being much closer than anyone expected, with Colorado State holding a late lead. With all the attention around Norvell’s comments and Sanders’ response, the reaction to a loss was on Deion’s mind at one point during the game.
“Truthfully, there was one point in the game where I said, ‘We can’t let this dude win. Ain’t no way we’re letting this dude win.’ His press conference is going to be unbearable if we let this dude win,’” Deion Sanders said.

With time running out, Colorado State pinned the Colorado offense inside the five-yard line. It was going to be an incredibly difficult drive but Deion Sanders trusted his son Shedeur Sanders in that moment.
“But I knew, even when we got the ball on the two or three or four-yard line. I said, ‘As long as the ball is in Shedeur’s hands, we’re gonna get down this field. I knew that without a shadow of a doubt.”
Deion Sanders was right to trust his son, who led the Buffaloes down the field to force overtime. It was in overtime that Colorado managed to win the game and avoid an upset loss.

After the game, Sanders spoke about his postgame moment with Norvell and explained that he’s happy for the Colorado State head coach.
“I know Shedeur kind of got in between us,” Sanders said. “I can be petty if they’re petty, but I ain’t got time for that. I’m on to bigger things. I’m happy for the brother. I really am. I’m happy that they fought and played a good game. I’m happy that he’s a head coach. I’m happy for any brother that’s doing it and successful, man. I truly am.”
Deion Sanders says he’s the best college football coach
Deion Sanders recently appeared on 60 Minutes. There, he claimed he’s the best head coach in college football.
“Let me see a mirror, so I can look at it. You think I’m going to sit up here and tell you somebody else? You think that’s the way I operate? That somebody else got that on me?” Sanders said.
“I’ll tell you this: I love and I adore and I respect and every time I do a commercial with coach [Nick] Saban it’s a gift. Just sitting in his presence and hearing him and throwing something else out there so I can hear his viewpoint on it, because he’s forgotten more things than I may ever accomplish. So I’m a student looking up to this wonderful teacher saying just throw me a crumb of what you know.”
