Deion Sanders believes Travis Hunter is clear Heisman pick: ‘That’s been a wrap’
Deion Sanders believes there’s no question which player in college football deserves to be named the 2024 Heisman Trophy recipient, and his name is Travis Hunter.
Colorado’s two-way star had another memorable weekend in Week 12, as the Buffaloes secured another major victory against the Utah Utes. Hunter did it all on both sides of the ball, picking off a pass while also making some highlight reel catches and rushing for a touchdown to cap off his afternoon.
During his press conference following the game, Sanders was asked to make the case for Hunter, and he declined to do so. The Colorado leader believes there’s no convincing that needs to be done — if you watch the games, you can tell Hunter is the best player in the sport at the moment.
“I ain’t giving no message to no Heisman voters that are undecided. If they can’t see, they can’t see. I mean, it is what it is,” Sanders stated, regarding Hunter’s Heisman campaign. “I mean, Travis is who he is. It’s supposed to go to the best college football player. I think that’s been a wrap since what, Week 2? So, we ain’t petitioning for nobody. We ain’t doing that.

“We’ve got a wonderful display of cameras here, and I think we’re on national television every week. If they can’t see it, there’s a problem. Don’t allow their hatred for me to interfere with our kids’ success. Some of them, some of y’all got to stop that. Give the kids what they deserve, man. It ain’t my turn. I played 14 years. You had 14 years to hate me, now let it go.”
After his performance against Utah, Hunter is the odds-on favorite for the away, and it would be an upset if he doesn’t win.
Of course, there’s always a chance for a late surge from Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty or Miami’s Cam Ward, but it feels like it’s Travis Hunter’s Heisman in 2024, and Deion Sanders believes there’s no other choice.
