Deion Sanders broke down the Colorado quarterback battle between Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and freshman Julian Lewis. Safe to say, no decisions have been made and it might be a difficult one to make.

It’s no secret Lewis was the crown jewel of Colorado’s most recent recruiting class. The four-star quarterback was seen as a logical replacement for Sanders’ son Shedeur, who’s projected to be a top 10 pick in the NFL Draft.

But Salter has some swagger to him. Not to mention his four years of experience from Liberty to go along with a career high 32 touchdowns in 2023.

“Totally different,” Sanders said of the top two quarterbacks. “They can play man, but they approach the game totally different. But we got to be better and coaching to their strengths, we got to be better to put them in the right situations for success, but those guys can play.”

Sanders knows what he has in Salter, but there’s still an evaluation period. Over the course of four seasons, he threw for 5,889 yards, 56 touchdowns, 17 interceptions and a 58.7% completion percentage. Not only that, he ran for 2,006 yards and 21 touchdowns.

As a member of the Class of 2024, Lewis was a four-star recruit out of Carrollton (Ga.) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 7 overall prospect in the state, the No. 7 quarterback in the class and the No. 56 overall prospect in the class.

Sanders previously blasted a report that Lewis would automatically redshirt this season. It seems like the freshman is firmly in the race.

“Who you, who you, who did you hear say that? Who? Who? Who?” Sanders asked. “Who is Nick Evans? Who? Who?”

When clarified that it was a student reporter, Sanders said that was all he needed to know. He would say that has never been said in regards to the plans for Lewis unless something were to change those plans. However, again, Lewis is currently in their quarterback battle alongside Salter.

“Self-explanatory,” Sanders said. “Nobody said that, man. Nobody said that.

“That, that’s not our plan. That’s not his plan, but, if it happens, it happens. If he sustains an injury that puts him in that situation? But you never know. I mean, the guy could, could be a two, or he could be a one. I don’t think we’re going to put him in a box like that. We’re not doing that.”
