The Colorado Buffaloes secured bowl eligibility with their win over the Cincinnati Bearcats. While celebrating that accomplishment in the locker room after the game, head coach Deion Sanders called 99-year-old Colorado superfan Peggy Coppom to enjoy securing bowl eligibility with her.

As Sanders noted to the team before making the call to Coppom, she’s unfortunately been battling COVID-19 right now. So, she wasn’t able to attend the win in person. However, she was clearly watching her beloved Buffaloes earn their win over the Bearcats.

You can watch Deion Sanders call Colorado superfan Peggy Coppom, here:

“Peggy, everybody in the locker room can hear you and everybody around the country can hear you,” Sanders opened the call.

For her part, Peggy was clearly emotional on the call. She’s long since been a super fan of the Colorado program and since he’s gotten to Boulder, Sanders has embraced her. That has included inviting her to the 2023 Spring Game where she kicked the ball off to open the game. Following the game, Sanders made it clear that she was the MVP of that game. Later, following the 2023 win over Nebraska, Sanders and Coppom celebrated by dancing together.

“I am so happy,” Coppom said on the call. “Thank you. My, what a turnaround you’ve been for us.”

The last time Colorado made a bowl game was in 2020. That was an abbreviated season, though, and 2016 was the last whole season when the team made a bowl. 2004 was the last time the Buffaloes won a bowl game they went to, which is something Deion Sanders is hoping to change in his second season.

“Peggy, first and foremost, we love you. We appreciate you, and we want to thank you and we want to congratulate you to being able to go to a bowl game this year,” Sanders said.

Coppom went on to congratulate the rest of the team for making it to bowl eligibility while Sanders announced that once she was healthy enough, he had a game ball for her. At the end of the call, the entire team chanted, “We love you, Peggy.”

Peggy Coppom is a lifelong Colorado fan who moved to Boulder in 1940. Since then, she’s become a bit of a local celebrity and is known to attend as many Colorado sporting events as she possibly can. Alongside her late twin sister Betty Hoover, she has attended over 3,000 Colorado sporting events.
