Deion Sanders claims Colorado State win showed resilience
The Colorado Buffaloes picked up a huge victory last Saturday as they survived an upset scare against their in-state rival, Colorado State. The Buffaloes needed double overtime to dispatch the Rams, but in the end, they were able to pick up the 43-35 victory to advance to 3-0 on the year.
A win like that can teach a head coach a lot about the makeup of their team. And that is precisely what Colorado’s victory over Colorado State did for their head coach, Deion Sanders. During a recent interview with Bleacher Reports, Taylor Rooks, Sanders revealed what the win over the Rams showed him about his team.
“Resilience. Resilience because, first of all, you have two magnificent wins back-to-back of that nature,” said Sanders. “Then how will you try to keep the team rocking steady? Because not everyone in the locker room, including coaches, has won in their careers and in their lives, so you. So you gotta sense that, and you gotta fill that. You gotta try to find a common thread to bring everybody and keep everybody together as one. Don’t let no one get too high or too low; bring them all together.
“But you know some are going to go out there well beyond the point because they’ve never seen this much attention or this much focus, this much love, or this many followers in one week. And you know sooner or later you’re going to have a hiccup; I knew we would have a hiccup. I wanted to beat them down and blow them out, but I knew as a coach, the way we practiced, the way we prepared that week, we gon have to fight.”
The buffaloes showed a ton of resilience against the Rams, overcoming a fourth quarter 28-17 deficit. The Colorado offense was stagnant for much of the night. But star quarterback Shedeur Sanders finally caught fire late, leading them on two massive drives in the fourth quarter, including a seven-play 98-yard drive to tie the game at 28 and send it into overtime.

Overall, the victory over Colorado State showed Sanders what he needed to see out of his team, for better and worse. As he continued, the Buffaloes headman took some time to praise the effort his players and coaching staff put together to secure the win.
“We got some players that are going to take this game serious. We got some darn good coaches. But we got some personnel we gotta flip, we gotta change eventually. But we got the majority of those men on that field; they want to win, they love to play this game, and they love all the extra that comes with it.”
Colorado will likely need more of that resilient attitude this Saturday as they take on their most formidable opponent to date, the Oregon Ducks. The Buffaloes will travel up to Eugene, OR, to take on the Ducks in a huge Saturday afternoon showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 PM CT on Sept. 23 and can be viewed on ABC.
