As Colorado looks at a Big 12 run and potential College Football Playoff berth, rumors are swirling around Deion Sanders. Although Coach Prime has said he has no interest in coaching in the NFL, some wonder if the Cowboys could make a run at him, although he said he has a “kickstand down” in Boulder.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said NFL teams understand Sanders is happy at Colorado, where he has the Buffaloes at 8-2 entering this week’s game against Kansas. That’s why it would be on them to convince him to leave college football and make the leap to NFL coaching.

As for what team would be a good fit, Schefter didn’t know if any would, especially considering Sanders continued to reaffirm his commitment to Colorado. The only team he mentioned could be the Cowboys, who are at the center of the Coach Prime rumor mill.

“[Teams] know the kickstand is down, and they know it would have to be the right situation and it would have to be enticing,” Schefter said on SportsCenter Wednesday evening. “I think there are a lot of head coaching candidates – whether Deion Sanders or Bill Belichick – that basically wouldn’t respond to every single interview request or interest from any NFL team. Deion Sanders may have the kickstand down, but it’s up to some NFL team to persuade him to kick up the kickstand and to be interested in that.

“Deion’s motivation, really, is giving these young men purpose, being around as a mentor, guiding them. He really is, as he says, happy. So it’s up to some NFL team to see if they can change his mind. I don’t know that any, outside of Dallas, is capable of doing that. But that will be up to these NFL owners here in the weeks to come.”

Colorado went 4-8 in Sanders’ first year as head coach, but he has the Buffs firing on all cylinders this year. They take an 8-2 record into Week 13 with a path to the Big 12 Championship. CU also came in at No. 16 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings and has the Heisman Trophy favorite in Travis Hunter.

That turnaround is a big reason why Sanders said he’s not ready to think about leaving Boulder yet. He’s perfectly happy where he’s at and isn’t thinking about moving on.

“I am happy where I am, man. I’m good. I got a kickstand down,” Sanders said. “You know what a kickstand is? A lot of people in here at an age they don’t know what a kickstand is. That means I’m resting, I’m good, I’m happy. I’m excited, I’m enthusiastic about where I am. I love it here, truly do. Next question.”
