Deion Sanders says Colorado feels like his team now
Deion Sanders certainly feels like Colorado is his football team at this point. The head coach transformed the roster and molded his players into his vision ahead of the 2023 season.
There’s more work to be done, but Sanders loves where his team is up to this point. Now, a 1-11 football team has to go out and prove that progress on the field.
But there’s a palpable energy from Sanders this close to the season.
“Our roster is really talented,” Sanders said. “I love going to practice each day, witnessing the battles that we have in certain positions. Receiver battles, offensive line, defensive line, defensive backs, corners, kickers. It’s unbelievable. And I love the depth that we’re displaying right now. I really do. It’s a whole new team.
“And the thing about, instead of asking me about the roster changes and all that, why don’t you ask about the guys that we held onto? It’d be a good place to start. Ask them how much better this team looks. How much closer this team is. Ask them.”
There’s no reason Sanders shouldn’t like the transfer portal, as he’s brought in 48 players to Colorado through the transfer portal this offseason and has the No. 3 ranked transfer portal class in the nation according to On3’s Transfer Portal Index.

Regardless of how he got his team to where they are now, all Sanders wants to do at Colorado is win, at all costs.
“Man I don’t care nothing about no different teams moving. We trying to win, man,” Sanders responded to a reporter who asked about the latest major programs changing conferences. “I don’t care where we play. I don’t care what conference, who we’re playing against, we’re trying to win.”

Sanders seems to not have a care in the world and is just focused on preparing his team to win games against a tough schedule this fall — a process that he says is coming along quite nicely.
“I love what I’m seeing,” Sanders said of the team’s cohesiveness. “Coaches are doing a phenomenal job of blending everything together. But these kids, we have to give them credit for what they’re accomplishing. It’s not an all-white table at lunch, you know, it’s not an all-black table at lunch — it’s a team and I love that.”
