Deion Sanders compares his schedule to Santa Claus: ‘I don’t have time to enjoy the moment’
Deion Sanders compared his schedule to Santa Claus’ — which is fitting, because every Saturday feels like Christmas for Colorado fans at the moment.
Basically, Sanders believes there’s no breaks in his schedule, no time to stop and smell the roses. He has to keep moving to keep the Buffaloes on top, and that’s what he plans on doing moving forward.
“No, not really. I don’t have time to enjoy the moment,” stated Sanders. “Santa don’t have time. He got to deliver the gifts. He don’t got time to enjoy his cookies. That’s all he gets. I ain’t got time for that. I’ve got to keep it going.
“I’ve got to keep this machine going, and make sure we stay on the right path, and make sure we’re locked in and we’re focused on the right things. Make sure we’re practicing adequately. Make sure we’re giving it our all. Making sure we’re making the right adjustments and playing the proper personnel. So it’s a lot. It’s a lot driving this train. It’s not easy.”
Alas, that’s what it takes to be the best of the best, and that’s what Sanders wants to achieve with Colorado. He’ll get some time to enjoy his successes in the future, but for now it’s all about the work.
Deion Sanders will look to continue making it feel like Christmas for Colorado fans, as the Buffaloes take on Colorado State this weekend.

For Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes, the showdown promises an even brighter spotlight than the program’s already under. But that’s nothing new to the head coach, who isn’t worried about being ready for a showdown.
“Yeah, I had two divorces which was heck of a showdowns too,” Sanders joked. “So don’t tell me about a showdown.”
Colorado has won the last five meetings with Colorado State, dating back to a 2014 loss. Sanders and his program will be looking to stretch their season record out to 3-0, a heck of a start for a program that won just one game all year long in 2022.
That a rival represents the opportunity to go 3-0 is just icing on the cake.
“Now you want me to understand better Rocky Mountain Showdown,” Sanders said. “You’ve got to give me some verbiage or some literature on something just to brief me, but trust me, this isn’t my first rodeo when it comes to that. I think the Falcons and the Saints were quite a showdown as well as playing against the 49ers, Cowboys-49ers, I could keep going, Cowboys-Philly, Cowboys-whoever was always there in a showdown. Baseball as well.
“So it’s always some type of adversity that you have against someone in close proximity of you.”
