Deion Sanders compares his platform with sons to LeBron James, LaVar Ball
Deion Sanders and his sons Shedeur and Shilo are squarely in the crosshairs of criticism fair or not. Coach Prime compared that platform to LeBron James and LaVar Ball and how the two dealt with attention regarding their sons.
Of course, James is bound for the Hall of Fame and will get the opportunity to play with his son Bronny on the Los Angeles Lakers. Ball’s sons Lonzo and LaMelo were first round picks but received unprecedented attention due to their father, well before their NBA prospects were considered.
Sanders shared his thoughts on his position as a father of two star athletes that could very well be NFL stars next season.
“I’m very thoughtful and appreciative and I think about that,” Sanders said. “And the way I approach some things, that thought process is in my mind and I also think about how the black father’s portrayed. I remember how they were targeting LaVar Ball because he had a love for his kids and he wanted to do his thing. Next thing you know, both of those kids are first rounders right?
“He told you before it happened, but you didn’t like it. Now you all over LeBron about Bronny for getting an opportunity. Bronny was gonna get an opportunity whether you liked it or not. It just depends on where the opportunity came from. It happens to be with his dad, which is iconic.”

Deion Sanders considers unique position as father of athletes
Shedeur Sanders is considered a top 10 pick right now and arguably the top QB in next year’s draft. A lot can change from now until next spring, but he’s a much talked about prospect. Shilo, a defensive back, also has NFL prospects.
Deion Sanders also considers Travis Hunter one of his de facto sons, after Hunter committed to him at Jackson State over Florida State and followed him to Colorado. Hunter is also in the Heisman conversation and could be a top 10 pick as a two-way player.
“And you look at my sons and you attack that and you always got something to say instead of being appreciative,” Sanders said. “Because most of you got sons or daughters and just think if somebody treated your kid like you treat ours. You attack theirs like your attack ours.
“And you don’t do your homework and understand the stories that you’re asking me about. Like you got to really consider that stuff. But as a black man, we will always be on the cross my brother. A lot come with that. Much is given, much is required. I’m ready for that though. God chose the right one as well. I’m thankful to be in front of you.”
