Colorado coach Deion Sanders celebrated Saturday’s win against Nebraska with one of the biggest Buffaloes fans there is, Peggy Coppom. The 98-year-old joined the CU football team in the locker room following the 36-14 home win over the Cornhuskers and was captured on video dancing with Sanders and the players.

Holding a football and a gold pompon while wearing a Buffaloes polo, Coppom got the party started with the words “play my theme music.” The Colorado team then broke out in song as Sanders stood next to Coppom and held her hand while leading the celebration. You can view the moment below.

Coppom is a lifelong Colorado fan who moved to Boulder in 1940 and has been a regular at Buffaloes sporting events since then. She has become somewhat of a local celebrity in the city while attending more than 3,000 events with her twin sister, Betty Hoover, who passed away in 2020.

Now nearing 100 years old, Hoover has never wavered in her support of the Buffaloes. Sanders even selected her to begin the spring game with the opening kickoff back in April. It’s safe to say with the way the season has started, she has to be enjoying things as the Buffaloes have already surpassed their win total from 2022 with Saturday’s victory.

Sanders was also by Coppom’s side when she delivered the opening kick at the Buffaloes spring game.

They walked together towards the football placed on a tee. With snow coming down in the cold Boulder, Colo., air and a year pom-pom in her left hand, Coppom swung her right foot back and kicked the ball forward to applause from the crowd.

Sanders than gave her a hug and then members of the team surrounded her and started jumping up and down.

“Peggy balled. Peggy was the MVP of the game,” Sanders said. “She was quick. The first step was unbelievable. She was very physical when she grabbed me and made sure I held her arm.”

Earlier in the year, Sanders stopped by Coppom’s house to look through old Colorado scrapbooks with her and talk about her famous fandom in the Buffaloes program.

The kick was just the latest bonding moment between Sanders and Coppum.

“She was thankful and appreciative,” Sanders said. “She really was. She’s hilarious. I mean, the little quick comments that she may have, that (were) out there, (were) unbelievable. I’m pretty sure they caught it in my mic. But she’s fun, man. She’s good. I wish to God — I just want to make it that far and have the same smile and energy and love, just for life, as she does.”
