Deion Sanders defends Shedeur after calling former teammate 'mid', claps back at fan
Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders was active and fiery on Twitter Wednesday morning, taking up for his son as a future top NFL Draft selection.
Early Wednesday morning, Sanders tweeted out the following message before one reply to it really got him fired up:
“Folks don’t hate u because they really don’t know u. They admire u in a Negative way. They realize they can’t be u, think like u, talk like u or walk in your shoes. That Bothers them. Always smile when u see them because that makes them admire u so much more in that negative way.”
One account, named PreTimeKB, responded: “Tell yo son stop act like he the coldest out here then put up a 4-8 season.”
And Sanders wasn’t holding back in his response to that reply, tweeting back: “He will be a top 5 pick. Where yo son going ? Lololol I got time today. Lololol.”
Shedeur Sanders had made headlines this week when he discredited a former Colorado transfer and teammate — one of nearly 40 guys to make that decision this offseason. Shedeur clapped back at Xavier Smith after Smith criticized how head coach Deion Sanders handled roster turnover in-depth story from The Athletic, detailing many players who’ve departed the program via the transfer portal.

Smith claimed Deion could’ve been more compassionate when making roster changes, whether that’d be outright cutting players or encouraging them to enter the transfer portal, Smith felt he didn’t get his fair shot.
“He didn’t want me to waste a year thinking I could earn a spot. I was actually getting mad, like tears coming to my eyes,” Smith told The Athletic. “Because, bro, you never even tried to get to know me. He was destroying guys’ confidence and belief in themselves. The way he did it, it could’ve been done with a little more compassion.”
Upon seeing some of the Smith quotes on a graphic from The Athletic on social media, Shedeur Sanders responded and downplayed Smith’s loss with the same coldness his father displayed when first alerting Smith he should leave.
“(I don’t) even remember him (to be honest),” Sanders wrote on Twitter. “Bro had to be very mid at best.”
Following his transfer, Smith eventually found himself at the FCS level at Austin Peay last season and switched to defensive back. He played right away and earned a spot on Phil Steele’s FCS Freshman All-America Fourth Team. He then followed coach Scottie Walden to UTEP, using the transfer portal once again to get back up to the Div. I level.
