Deion Sanders details his relationship with Gus Malzahn
Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has built relationships throughout football over the years. That includes UCF Knights head coach Gus Malzahn.
While speaking at Big 12 Media Days, Sanders was asked about Malzahn and he opened up about their relationship, praising the UCF coach.

“He’s awesome, man…he’s real, he’s honest, he keeps it 100,” Deion Sanders said. “When we went there on a recruiting trip, I’ve never seen a coach do this, he had another kid that was like a five-star quarterback and he said, ‘Alright, let’s see what y’all got.’ He took Shedeur on the backfield with some receivers and that quarterback and they went at it, throw for throw. You know how it turned out, but who does that besides the coach that wants to know the truth?”
It’s an interesting story about Malzahn’s approach to recruiting and how he interacts with players in those situations. It’s a method that has worked out well for him in his career, be it at Auburn or UCF.
“He kept it a buck with us the whole time. I just love his style. I love his tenacity. I love his endurance. I love what he stands for and I’m good with him, man. I forever support him,” Sanders said.

This season, Deion Sanders and Colorado will get the opportunity to travel to Orlando to play a road game against UCF in the Bounce House. It’s a game that UCF has already sold out. It’s a game that should be important for both teams trying to get out to a quick start in conference play.
“Most definitely. I think we have 20 or more Floridians on our team and I’m from Florida…So, I welcome that moment we get our opportunity and I guarantee that’ll probably be the most requests from high school players that week I guarantee than they’ve ever had. I’ll make sure of that,” Sanders said.
“But he’s phenomenal, man. I love him. All these coaches have been great to me. They’ve been gracious, they’ve been kind, they’ve been supportive, they’ve been outside of the box. I’m not used to that. I’m not used to nobody treating me right. I’m used to the hate, you know, but being used to the hate you guys have helped me understand what love is.”
Colorado and UCF will play their head-to-head game on September 28th. It will be Colorado’s second Big 12 Conference game of the season.
