Deion Sanders doubles down on criticizing officials for Shilo Sanders targeting ejection
Colorado safety Shilo Sanders was disqualified from Saturday’s contest against UCLA for an illegal hit in the first half.
The hit has since made the rounds on social media, and it’s clear that Shilo’s hit on UCLA’s Carsen Ryan was not helmet-to-helmet. Shilo’s father, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, revealed his opinion on the play, and what he said to his son after his ejection.
“He’s gotta keep it low. Just keep it low. If you keep it low, there’s no question,” Sanders said postgame. “I believe that he was not at fault because he turned his shoulder. He always does, he knows how to hit. And I told him I’m proud of him. He was having a heck of a game. He was being dominant on the defensive side of the ball, and I’m just proud of him. I’m sorry this transpired but I’m proud of his effort. I don’t ask my kids to be the best on the field, I ask them to give their best. And he gave us his best.”
Prior to his exit, Shilo Sanders had four tackles and one forced fumble, making his impact on the game felt. Sanders has been a major contributor for the Buffaloes’ defense this season, and is second on the team with 37 total tackles on the year. It was his second forced fumble of the season, not to mention having a pick-six earlier in the year as well.
Shilo’s brother, Shedeur Sanders, also didn’t have the best time against UCLA. He threw the ball 43 times for 217 yards and a touchdown — but he didn’t look like his typical self. According to Coach Prime, there’s an obvious reason for his uncharacteristic performance. He offered a simple solution to his son’s issues.

“He’s hurt. He’s hurt everywhere. Trust me,” Sanders said. “… The big picture is you go get new linemen. That’s the picture, and I’m gonna paint it perfectly.”
Shedeur has been sacked 41 times this season — good for around five per game. That’s not only devastating to Colorado’s efforts on offense, but now it’s obviously taking a toll on his body, too.
