Colorado may have ended the season on a losing streak, but the confidence of Deion Sanders isn’t shaken so easily.

The Buffaloes finished 4-8 after a 4-2 start to the 2023 campaign. That won’t be acceptable next season for Sanders’ standard, and he explained what’s going to go into the next steps of Colorado’s rebuild as he looks to build a formidable contender in 2024.

“Understanding what we’re capable of, and what it takes to get to that level of consistency, of practice habits, of study habits, of holding one another accountable. Me not having to do all the yelling. The coaches taking a part of that as well,” Sanders explained, regarding how Colorado’s building their foundation and where they go from here, following their final game of the season. “We established some things that are foundational. When these new young men come in here, it’s established in stone.

“They’ve just got to proceed with caution, so to speak. The guys that are here, they understand this is how it is. This is how it’s going to be. We’re going to make sure the standard is the standard.”

Additionally, Sanders added that this season in particular was one about restoring the hope in the Buffaloes’ fanbase. Colorado certainly did that, and now they’re expecting more next season.

“This was a season of hope,” Sanders said. “We instilled hope not only in our fan base, but in college football alike. But, next year is a season of expectation. Right now, we are recruiting our butts off. I’m recruiting as I speak. The expectation is everything. We have players that can get it done. We have a tremendous coaching staff. Now, we just got to add a few more pieces to the puzzle.”

Although the team didn’t reach the College Football Playoff or even a bowl game, its message was clear: Colorado can shake up the college football world. Of course, for a program to last, it has to have more than trendy celebrations and hot headlines.

Colorado needs wins. And to find wins, it needs players. Right now, Colorado is off to an alright start achieving the latter. Colorado has the No. 29 recruiting class in the 2024 cycle, according to On3 Industry Rankings.

Of course, Deion Sanders is hitting the transfer portal hard as well. We’ll see if it pays off in droves for him once again in Boulder next season.
