Deion Sanders has only been at Colorado for a couple months but he’s already making a big impact. And one early commitment from Dylan Edwards has helped reinforce belief in what Sanders is out to achieve.

Edwards was one of the first players to commit to Sanders at Colorado. After his pledge, he went to work recruiting others.

But his decision to go to Colorado is all about the personal relationship he has with Sanders.

“It made it special because I had a tremendous relationship with his parents,” Sanders said on national signing day. “Coach Andre Hart, a linebacker coach, coach Kevin Mathis, who coached with me from youth all the way up. We’ve coached that kid since I think he was 5 or 6 years old, and his siblings. Sibling.”

Edwards is a great get, a smaller running running back with a player comp of Dri Archer — a small but explosive back.

He was ranked as the No. 180 overall player in the country according to the On3 Consensus recruiting rankings, while he checked in as the No. 11 running back in the country.

Family bond important in Dylan Edwards commitment

The two-way commitment between Edwards and Sanders is a special one, in part because of the length of the relationship.

Few can speak to what Sanders hopes to accomplish better than Edwards. The entire family felt the bond with the Colorado program once Sanders took charge.

“It’s a special bond, a special tie with the family, and we have the utmost respect for them that they would feel like we’re really capable of really helping him mature that young man into a full-grown man and help him accomplish his dreams and visions and the things that he desire in life,” Sanders said. “So just knowing them and they know how we run a program, they know who we are because we’ve been doing it consistently ever since he was a kid, that’s special. Dylan is a special kid.”

Colorado’s recruiting class finished ranked 33rd nationally. That is the highest recruiting ranking for the program since the 2017 recruiting cycle.
