Deion Sanders explains what's different about this Colorado team after 4-2 start

While Deion Sanders isn’t one for comparing the past to the present — a point he made amply clear — he does know that there are some things different from the 2023 Colorado squad to this current team.
Despite the differences, though, the Buffaloes find themselves, again, at 4-2 after six games for the second year in a row under Sanders. While the record might be the same, how Colorado arrived at it is certainly different, and a reflection that things have shifted some in Boulder.
“Well lets start with the coaches,” Sanders said. “The coaching staff is tremendously different. Very talented. Truly smart, intelligent and understands what we have inside this locker room. The young men we have on this team is truly different. I think you can tell that by at least five scouts coming to practice every day.”
Sanders did indeed overhaul his coaching staff after Year 1. Besides himself, only three of the 10 assistant coaches on staff remained: associate head coach and running backs coach Gary Harrell, linebackers coach Andre’ Hart and cornerbacks coach Kevin Mathis.

Every other position coach and the two coordinators are in their first year in the role, though some were promoted from lower-profile jobs that they held for the 2023 season.
And the result has been a team that has been different in noticeable ways, albeit not wins and losses halfway through the regular season. But after starting 4-2 in 2023, the Buffaloes finished 0-6, posting a 4-8 final mark. There’s plenty of reason to believe that won’t be the fate this time around.
But Sanders, mostly, is focused on the present and not holding it up against the past.
“So, I don’t compare yesterday to today,” Sanders said. “And I would hope that you wouldn’t either, in your personal life, because this is a whole new day, whole new year, whole new time, whole new thought process, whole new outlook on life and I don’t look at yesterday and compare those two. Not whatsoever. But that’s a great question. But this is a whole different team, and I’m proud to coach it. I really am.”
