Deion Sanders explains why he is 'keeping receipts' as a coach
When at the podium or in the media, most coaches do their best to avoid situations that can lead to conflict outside of their respective programs. Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has seen plenty of opponents break those boundaries with his name in mind.
Recently, during a press conference at the Buffaloes’ fall camp, the Colorado headman explained why he keeps receipts of what others have to say about him, his coaching, and his program.
“That’s who I am. That’s who I was as a player. You think I’m gonna change? Nah, I don’t change, man. I mean, I’m consistent with who I am, what I am, (and) how I am. I’m close to being 56 years old, looking good and feeling good, talking good, walk good, with a limp. But I love life. I love the life I live, and I live the life I love. So, I’m not averse to the nonsense of life,” said Sanders.
“A lot of coaches sit up there and lie to you because they want you to believe something else about who they are. You know who I am. I’m consistent with who I’ve been for a long time. I’ve been in the light since I was 18 years old; this ain’t nothing new to me.
There have been some coaches that have had choice words about how Sanders began his tenure at Colorado. The Buffaloes’ headman saw high turnover numbers on the roster as many players entered and exited the transfer portal.
Those who have scrutinized his methods this offseason, Sanders has not shied away from responding to those comments. And given his statement above, individuals be warned; if you have something to say about Deion Sanders, he will have no problem addressing it because that is simply who he is.

Sanders returns fire after Oregon, Washington opt to leave Pac-12: ‘Same teams that were talking about us, right?’
Prior to the official announcement of Oregon and Washington’s departure from the Pac-12, Sanders spoke about the two universities’ moves, returning a shot they delivered to Colorado after their move to the Big 12. The Buffaloes’ headman isn’t concerned with conference movement at all. In year one of his tenure in Boulder, Coach Prime is focused on one thing: winning football games.
He shared that sentiment at his Friday press conference, some of which aired live on ESPN:
“Man I don’t care nothing about no different teams moving. We trying to win, man,” Sanders responded to a reporter who asked about the latest major programs changing conferences. “I don’t care where we play. I don’t care what conference, who we’re playing against, we’re trying to win,”
Deion Sanders also made it clear that these developments are purely motivated by money, which he finds ironic.
“All this is about money, you know that. It’s about a bag. Everybody’s chasing a bag, then you get mad at the players when they chase it. How is that? How do the grownups get mad at the players when the colleges are chasing it?”
