Deion Sanders expresses further confidence in son Shilo after rough outing vs. Kansas State
It’s been a rough week for Shilo Sanders since his poor performance against Kansas State over the weekend. The nadir was getting put on the highlight reel for Wildcats running back DJ Giddens, as the Buffaloes safety crumpled to the ground trying to tackle the running back in the hole.
But he’s still got the backing of his father and coach, Deion Sanders, as the Buffaloes roll on. Speaking on his weekly coaches radio show, the Deion Sanders expressed why he’s confident his son will bounce back.
And Deion Sanders also intimated that there was something else going on behind the scenes with his son, but didn’t explain what it was.
“The thing about Shilo is he’s that one kid I have (that) I don’t worry about him,” Deion Sanders said. “You know why? Because he’s mentally and physically tough. And if people really look at his career, this is the first time we’ve seen Shilo vulerable. I mean, not knocking somebody’s head off or going up there blowing somebody up. We knew why. Everybody don’t know why, but we knew why.”
So far, Sanders has played in three games for the Buffaloes this season after missing a spell with a broken forearm.
He’s got 21 total tackles and a tackle for loss on the season from his safety position. And while he had a rough outing on Saturday, Deion Sanders will be needing his son right back in the fold this Saturday, and trusts he’ll bounce back.
“But, I’m proud of him,” Deion Sanders said. “He’s the kid I don’t worry about. I know what I’m gonna get in his game. I know he’s gonna bring it, I know he’s gonna be there. We’ve never had any doubt about how he plays.”

Shilo Sanders pledged to be better after his poor game
As Sanders explained while speaking to the media after practice, it was a disappointing performance to return from injury to, one which he referred to as the worst of his life. However, now he’s going to block out any outside noise and focus on improving.
“You work to get back, then you get back and you have the worst game of your life,” Sanders said. “Man, it’s really disappointing for me, especially the fans. So, and I’ve been seeing everybody turn on me and stuff like that. I’m not worried about none of that because as soon as you do good, they’re gonna be right back on your side just how they was when we won the UCF game out there in Florida. So, I’m not really worried about none of that.”
Sanders initially went down with his arm injury against Nebraska. That would require surgery and cost him several weeks of the season, including games against Colorado State, Baylor, and UCF. He returned to play against Kansas State, but still appeared to be shaking off some rust.
“I’m worried about me getting better. I’m worried about contributing to the team, hoping us win, and my role,” Sanders said. “I can’t be going out there not on my game. I’m the free safety. If I mess up, everybody is gonna see it. So, I’ve gotta pay attention to detail and be on my game at all times.”
