Deion Sanders: Full Colorado salary details revealed, contract stipulations for Nike
The details surrounding Deion Sanders’ salary at Colorado have been revealed, including contract stipulations for Nike.
The Denver Post acquired a copy of the contract, which is five years in length. Sanders will be paid $29.5 million before any bonuses or incentives are taken into account as well.
Interestingly, after Deion Sanders’ third season in Colorado, the contract allows a window for contract negotiations to be opened. In that window, the two sides will have a “good faith” negotiation over things like salary, damages, and termination without cause.

Deion Sanders has also been given up to $200,000 annually to use a private jet for recruiting purposes, signaling that the school is looking to make a major push in recruiting that it hasn’t in the past. On top of that, he has an assistant salary pool of $5 million.
In his first year, Sanders is set to make $5.5 million. Technically, he has a base salary of $500,000. He is then being supplemented by $1.5 million for developing student-athletes, as well as $1.75 million for media appearances and promotion, each.
Sanders’ buyout if Colorado fires him is 75% of the remaining contract. For another school to hire him, Sanders would owe the school $15 million after year one, with the amount in damages owed decreasing each season.
The contract includes incentives for things like winning the conference, making a New Year’s Six bowl, and $100,000 for each additional win after six games.

One other note about the contract is that it requires Deion Sanders to wear Nike gear. Sanders previously had a deal with Under Armour to wear their apparel. It’s not just Deion, though, his son Shedeur Sanders has a deal with Under Armour too. He, who transferred to Colorado with his father, will have to wear Nike as well.
What this means for the deal the Sanderses signed with Under Armour is unclear. However, it’s worth pointing out that Colorado’s deal with Nike goes to June 30, 2025. So, there is a chance this changes within the time that Sanders is coaching at Colorado. This happened while Sanders was at Jackson State too.
Deion Sanders’ contract was approved by the Colorado Board of Regents in an 8-1 vote.
Joel Klatt thinks the change with Deion Sanders and Colorado is real
College football analyst Joel Klatt thinks that the change that Deion Sanders will bring to Colorado is real. The primary reason? Prime is going to bring in talented players.
“This is real, it’s is not just fun speeches and talking about luggage and Louis, and I mean those things are amazing that’s all anyone can by the way ask me about, but now it’s starting to become real,” Klatt said.
“Because when the rubber meets the road in college football, what is the sport all about? Players, right? You’ve gotta have the players to go out and compete and win, and now they’re starting to win some of those battles against the big boys.”
