New Colorado football coach Deion Sanders is actively putting together his coaching staff after taking the job a few weeks ago. The latest coach to reportedly join the Buffaloes’ staff is James Chaney, who just resigned from Lehigh since being head coach there since 2015. Apparently Chaney resigned so he could head west and link up with Sanders in Boulder.

The report comes from Alex Martin with the Fort Myers News-Press, who gave these details on the Chaney hiring:

“Chaney, who coached the Lightning from 2015 until his resignation on Dec. 12, will reunite with former North Fort Myers High School and Florida State teammate Deion Sanders, who is the head coach at Colorado. Chaney’s title will be the Director of Player Development and he’s set to report to Boulder on Jan. 5.”

Martin also spoke with Chaney, who commented on the job he just took:

“It’s a blessing to be a part of that whole movement. It’s a blessing to be on that staff. I really look forward to seeing how it all unfolds. I’m really curious how it works behind the scenes. I played college football, I’ve got kids that played college football, and I’ve got players that I’ve sent off to play college football. It’s a new era now, from when I played. … I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to the opportunity.”

Sounds like a terrific and experienced addition to the Colorado coaching staff. Good find by Deion Sanders.

Colorado has already started loading up not only with a great coaching staff but with some excellent transfer portal additions. Highlighted by the Buffaloes landing Travis Hunter, the No. 1 overall player in the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings, who also happened to play under Sanders at Jackson State. As did Deion’s son, Shedeur Sanders, who also transferred to Colorado.

Bright future in Boulder.
