Colorado Get BACK ON TRACK

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes look for motivation everywhere they can find it. However, one kind of motivation that Sanders thrives on in particular is being doubted.

Colorado now sits at 4-2 on the season. It’s a much hotter start than just about everyone was predicting for Deion Sanders, including metrics like ESPN. On The Colorado Football Coaches Show, Sanders opened up about being doubted, saying it turns him on.

“Vegas did that too, right?” Deion Sanders said. “I love when they bet against me. That kind of turns me on.”

Next up for Colorado is a game against Stanford before the conference slate gets very difficult with games against UCLA, Oregon State, and Washington State. The Buffaloes are likely going to be doubted by many in those games, even though Sanders has led Colorado to a strong start.

Despite all the success that Deion Sanders has had to this point in the season, he’s still not happy. In particular, he was frustrated with the win against Arizona State because he feels Colorado is better than they showed that game.

“I wasn’t happy,” Deion Sanders said. “You know I don’t fake it. We’re better than that. We’re better than what we displayed and we will show that this week, preferably, that we’re much better than that. That game should’ve never come to that conclusion, the way we went about it. We can’t rely on Shedeur [Sanders] to put on his cape every darn week and be Superman and bring us back. We gotta stop that.”

Deion Sanders dismissed bowl eligibility as a goal

At 4-2 halfway through the season, a bowl game seems to be squarely on the table for Colorado. After going just 1-11 in 2022, that would be a remarkable turnaround in Deion Sanders’ first season with the program.

At the same time, Sanders isn’t focused on a bowl game and says that Colorado just wants to win.

“We want to win,” Sanders said. “I don’t give a damn about no bowl right now. We want to win. If that’s part of the package at the conclusion of the season of winning — I’m all for it… But that’s one of my least concerns right now is a bowl.”

As a player at Florida State, Deion Sanders went to and won four bowl games. Today, he remembers them fondly but they’re simply not his focus at this point in the season.

“I thank God when I was in college, we had the opportunity to go to four straight bowl games,” Sanders said. “Which was a true gift that was wonderful. Me and my teammates enjoyed it. They had wonderful packages of bags full of gear and all sorts of things, surprises for ya. And it was a great time.”
