Mike Golic Jr.- Oregon Has Key Opportunity Vs. Colorado, Deion Sanders

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders didn’t shy away from what happened to his team on Saturday in Eugene. For four quarters, Colorado was overmatched in a 42-6 blowout at the hands of Oregon.

After the fact, Sanders was up-front in his assessment from what happened. There was really no hiding from it, anyways.

“It was a good, old-fashioned butt kicking. No excuses, no nothing. Their coaches did a heck of a job preparing their team. Obviously we didn’t. That was good — I mean that was a really good old-fashioned butt kicking,” Sanders said. “We went into the game wanting to dominate phases. We lost offensively, defensively as well as special teams. That fake punt kind of got them really rolling and they didn’t stop ever since they secured that first down.”

All Sanders could do was compliment the Ducks and lament his own teams inability to get things done.

“Well-coached team. Bo Nix played his butt off. Defensively, they presented some things that I guess we just couldn’t get around. We couldn’t advance the ball rushing or throwing the ball as well. Seemed like they had our number. But hats off to their coaching staff and their head coach. Great job, and they were truly prepared,” Sanders said.

Sanders wasn’t terribly upset about some shots from Ducks head coach Dan Lanning

Lanning made a bold pregame speech to his players before the showdown between the Top 20 teams, not holding back in going after the way Sanders and his team have embraced the pedestal and media attention.

“Rooted in substance, not flash. Rooted in substance. Today, we talk with our pads,” Lanning said, before the video cut to later in the speech.

He continued his speech with more fodder.

“The Cinderella story is over, man They’re fighting for clicks, we’re fighting for wins. There’s a difference. This game ain’t going to played in Hollywood, it’s going to be played on the grass. It’s going to be played on the grass. Let’s go,” Lanning said before bringing his team up to take the field.

Following the game, Sanders was asked about the pregame comments Lanning made. Maybe surprisingly, Sanders was not too upset with him. His logic was since Oregon won the game, Lanning was allowed to take shots against the Buffaloes.

“I got messages,” Sanders said via Sport Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger. “God bless him, he’s a great coach. Take shots. They won.”
