Deion Sanders on son Shedeur's status for Utah game: 'We're praying'
The Colorado Buffaloes will play their final game of the 2023 college football season against the Utah Utes and their physical brand of defense. There has been some question as to whether or not the Buffaloes’ star quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, will play in the season’s final game, with little to nothing at stake.
On Wednesday, during the Colorado Football Coaches Show, his head coach and father, Deion Sanders, provided an update on the star quarterback status for the game.
“We don’t know about Shedeur’s availability right now. We’re praying because I think Weaver is less than 100 yards away from 1000. And I think Shedeur had a couple of personal things that he could accomplish,” said Sanders.
“It’s some other personal things that the guys could accomplish, and I want them to accomplish. But it’s much easier with Shedeur; it’s gonna be a challenge without. We’re going to have to pull together as a unit if that’s the case.”
Sanders exited the field early in Colorado’s 56-14 loss to the Washington State Cougars with a hand injury. It was initially said he was held out of the remainder of the game as a precaution. But given the Buffaloes’ head coach’s statements above, the situation surrounding Sanders’s health might be more concerning than originally believed.

The Buffaloes coach revealed that he was ailing during an ugly road loss to Washington State on Friday night. Speaking at a press conference days later ahead of the season finale, a much more chipper Sanders shared he is feeling better.
“Oh my god. First of all, I apologize for the press conference afterwards,” Sanders said. “I don’t even remember the flight back. Like, you have no idea like how sick and medicated. I got an IV before the game. And I just had to be out there with the kids. There’s no way I was going to miss the game.”
Unfortunately for Sanders, the game might’ve been worth missing, as the Buffaloes got thumped, 56-14, by the Cougars.
But Sanders had some humor about that, too.
“But I hadn’t been this sick in a long time. I mean that was bad, bad. And we played just like I felt,” he said.
