Deion Sanders on Colorado’s ‘hot garbage’ performances: ‘I’m sick of it’
The good news for Colorado? A game-winning field goal flew through the uprights to secure a road win against Arizona State. The bad news? Deion Sanders was not too happy with the performance. In fact, he called the Buffaloes’ showing “hot garbage” during his postgame press conference.
Sanders went on a passionate rant following the win, saying Colorado is still trying to figure things out. They have certainly played against a higher level of competition this season and results looked a whole lot better. Not to say Arizona State is not capable of keeping up but Sanders likely wanted more than a three-point win decided near the buzzer.
“Wonderful win,” Sanders began. “We played like hot garbage and I’m trying to figure this out. I’m sick of it. I really am. I’m sick of us coming out here and putting forth the effort we put forth in the first half. We’ve had practices, we’ve had really diligent meetings, and we’re trying to figure this out.
“I’m happy with the win but I am not happy with the fashion we won in. We’re better than that. We really are better than that and we got to start showing that. I expect to win and I expect to win in a better fashion than that. I’m sick of these consistent holes that we’re displaying and the penalties. We’re so much better.”
Colorado improved to 4-2 after the win, arguably a win total everyone from the outside would have considered an accomplishment heading into the season. Coming off a historically bad 1-11 finish, any kind of sustained success is progress.

Those are the expectations of us, not inside the buildings there in Boulder. Deion Sanders believes his team should be at a different level. His expectations are not going to change but did admit everyone involved in the program is going to have to be better moving forward.
“I’m not changing,” Sanders said. “You got to meet my expectations. That starts in practice, that starts in film study, that starts in preparation, that starts in coaching, that starts all the way down the board. It ain’t just the kids. It’s everybody. I have lofty expectations for this team, for this school, for this university. I really do and we’re going to get there.”
Friday night against Stanford will be Colorado’s next chance to get a result Sanders is satisfied with. If they come up short, a bye week will be a nice reset.
