Deion Sanders flirted with the NFL and the Dallas Cowboys earlier in January, before they opted to promote Brian Schottenheimer as their next head coach.

Rumors persisted for the better part of a week regarding the possibility of Coach Prime heading to Dallas to lead their team out of the darkness and into the light. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be, and Deion Sanders will remain with the Colorado Buffaloes for at least another season, as he enters his third in Boulder.

It’ll be his first without his sons Shedeur and Shilo Sanders, and with reigning Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter heading to the NFL as well, many have wondered how Deion Sanders will adjust. Ahead of a pivotal crusade, he joined ESPN’s First Take, where he professed his love for Colorado and college football as a whole.

“I don’t think they took a chance, because there’s a difference between a chance and opportunity. I’m an opportunity, I’m not a chance. Let’s get that straight,” Sanders proclaimed. “I love Colorado. I’m not using them as a stepping-stone to land anywhere else. I absolutely love it there. I love (Colorado Athletic Director) Rick George. I love everything about the city, the town, the school, the campus. I love everything about the community.

“I like it, because it’s our thing. You know, what we built around it — it’s our thing. Our coaching staff is impeccable, laced with a plethora of people that have matriculated from the NFL. I love that environment. So, I love the college game. I really do.

“It was funny that Coach [Bill] Belichick and I gave out the Coach of the Year last year. We just talked about recruiting. I said, ‘Coach, I heard you get in folks living rooms.’ Isn’t that crazy to think about? Belichick in someone’s living room. That’s crazy. But I’m happy. He’s elevating college football.”

All told, Deion Sanders time with Colorado has been more than exciting, and the Buffaloes went from 4-8 to 9-4 over two seasons with Coach Prime at the helm. While the team won’t exactly look the same in 2025, expectations will remain high, and many are hoping the team can take the next step and contend in the Big 12 next season.

Regardless, it’s evident Deion Sanders is committed to Colorado, and he’s not looking to move elsewhere at the moment. As long as that’s the case, the future is bright in Boulder.
