Deion Sanders reacts to son Shedeur recruiting Alabama players in transfer portal
Deion Sanders isn’t the only one who’s been hitting the recruiting trail this offseason. Evidently, it runs in the family. After former Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders didn’t hesitate to make his sales pitch to the Crimson Tide.
“Alabama players tap [in],” he wrote on X, accompanied by wide-eye emojis.
During a recent appearance on “RG3 and The Ones,” Deion Sanders addressed his son’s bold recruiting strategy.
“I texted him, ‘Man, you’re crazy,'” the Colorado head coach said with a laugh. “He said, ‘We gotta win, Dad. We gotta win.’ That’s what he’s on. But, if you’re talking about probably our best recruiter, it’s Shedeur and [standout wide receiver] Travis [Hunter].
“They want to get down with it. That’s why the whole offensive line has been changed. The whole receiving corps have not changed, but enhanced tremendously. I can’t wait to see them even get down and get ready preparing this offseason.”
The Sanders’ hard work in the transfer portal has paid off so far. Colorado already has added 22 players in the transfer portal. The Buffaloes are the No. 2 program in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.
While only one Alabama player is part of Colorado’s incoming transfer class, the group has no shortage of talent. As Deion Sanders mentioned, Colorado particularly strengthened its offensive line. Sanders and Co. reeled in six offensive linemen in the portal.

Colorado needed the help up front. The Buffaloes allowed 56 sacks this season, the second-most in the country. Despite Colorado’s lack of protection, Shedeur Sanders exceeded. The junior QB tallied 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns this season while only throwing three interceptions.
Deion Sanders reacts to Nick Saban’s retirement
Although Shedeur understandably used Saban’s retirement as a chance to help his team, Deion had a different initial reaction.
“I know him and I know his art and I know he loves this game,” Sanders said. “But when you’re sitting there watching how this thing plays out and you’re watching the obstacles you gotta go through and you’re seeing — you’re dealing with parents that are parents-slash-agents, homie-slash-the bagman.
“You’re dealing with so much craziness. And I get it, so I know he’s getting it at a whole ‘nother level, because I get it when I’m meeting with parents and these young men. Old school guys that were built and built their lives on hard work, dedication and trying to treat people right, they don’t see that formula work anymore. But it still does, but they don’t have the time.”
