Deion Sanders reacts to Travis Hunter's TV appearances, kickstarting Heisman campaign
Travis Hunter didn’t rest during Colorado‘s bye this weekend. Instead, the two-way Colorado star made appearances on ESPN’s College GameDay and FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff, unofficially kicking off his Heisman campaign. On Tuesday, Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders weighed in on Hunter’s busy weekend.
“I like it because that’s what everybody else has been doing,” Sanders said. “With the presidential campaign, that’s all you see. Well, it’s good enough to be working for them, it might as well work for Travis. And I think it did.
“Now he’s, like, touted the first person, like the No. 1 person in [the Heisman race] All he has to do now is just be consistent and be Travis. That’s it. I thought it was great. I love the way he expressed himself, the way he articulated himself and his presence on television was phenomenal. He’s a lovable, likable young man, and I’m proud.”
Evidently, Hunter’s campaign efforts paid off. The junior standout became the Heisman frontrunner this week, tied with Miami‘s Cam Ward for the best odds to win the coveted award, according to FanDuel.
Of course, Hunter’s infectious smile isn’t the only reason oddsmakers are high on him. Hunter plays both wide receiver and defensive back for the Buffaloes and does so at an elite level.
Hunter boasts 60 catches this season for 757 yards and eight touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, Hunter has been lockdown, tallying 20 tackles, seven passes defended and two interceptions.

In Week 9, the Big 12 named Hunter its Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week. He is the first player to ever win both awards in the same week.
Evidently, Travis Hunter’s endless energy isn’t limited to the gridiron. Sanders revealed that he’d seen Hunter extremely late on Friday evening, only to wake up and see him on the TV the following day.
“He had to only sleep on the plane. There’s no way,” Sanders said. “Only Travis has that type of energy, that he could go all day like that and go city to city. I think he was in like four different cities in one day. But he had a good time he told me he had a wonderful time. I’m proud of him.”
On Saturday, Hunter will look to add to his Heisman campaign as the Buffaloes square off against Texas Tech at 4 p.m. ET. The game will air live on FOX.
